HOW IS THE TALENT SHORTAGE IN CYBERSECURITY IMPACTING LEADERSHIP?

It's no secret that the current lack of a readily available skilled cybersecurity workforce halts the success of any organization’s security program. Automated tools and technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) offer a level of support, of course, and bringing in a managed security service provider provides expertise that isn’t available in-house for smaller businesses, but with these advances in technology comes with it the significant advancement in hackers and their ability to *eventually* weave through any new tech.

It’s now more important than ever to look in to, particularly if you’re a medium sized business, an internal security team. This of course, is juxtaposed by the fact that it is currently harder than ever to find a skilled cybersecurity workforce. This isn’t just entry-level positions, it’s now leadership including CISO and CSO.

How is this talent shortage impacting leadership?

One of the most significant impacts of the talent shortage in the cybersecurity industry is that companies are forced to compete for a limited pool of talent particularly at the higher end; supply and demand is ultimately driving up salaries and benefits. This can be particularly challenging for smaller companies or start-ups that may not have the resources to offer competitive compensation packages.

The talent shortage is also impacting leadership by limiting the ability to innovate. Cybersecurity threats are constantly evolving, and companies need to stay ahead of the curve to protect their systems and data. However, without enough qualified professionals, it can be difficult to develop new technologies and techniques to address emerging threats. This can leave companies vulnerable to attacks and can make it harder for them to stay competitive in the marketplace.

We discuss what we can do to address this talent shortage from the bottom line upwards on our new podcast Security Insights - click here to listen.
